Dog Vaccinations

Why Vaccinate Your Dog or Puppy?

Vaccinating your dog or puppy is one of the best ways to keep them safe and healthy. Even if they’re mostly indoors, they can still be exposed to harmful viruses that come in on your shoes, clothes, or through open windows. And places like parks or shared water bowls can be hotspots for germs. By vaccinating your dog, you’re giving them the protection they need to stay safe and healthy, while also helping to prevent the spread of illness to others.

FAQs

Does my dog need to be vaccinated?

Yes, vaccinations are essential for your dog’s health. They protect your pet from serious and sometimes fatal diseases, such as parvovirus and distemper. Vaccinations safeguard your dog and also help reduce the spread of diseases in the wider pet community.

After your dog’s vaccinations, it’s common for them to feel a little tired or lethargic for 24 to 48 hours. This is completely normal as their body builds immunity. You may also notice slight swelling or discomfort at the injection site. If these symptoms persist or if your dog appears unwell, it’s best to contact your vet. Otherwise, they should be back to their energetic self shortly!

You can take your puppy on their first walk about a week after their 12-week vaccination. By this time, they should have sufficient protection from diseases, allowing them to explore the world and meet other dogs safely. Always keep an eye on them during the walk to ensure they are comfortable and safe.

If your dog is behind on vaccinations, don’t worry, just speak with our team about getting them back on track. In some cases, we may recommend restarting the vaccination schedule or administering a booster to catch up. It’s crucial to keep your dog’s vaccinations up to date to ensure they are protected from preventable diseases.

Most puppy schools are happy to accept puppies from nine weeks old, as long as they’ve had their first vaccination and passed a health check. It’s a great way to socialise and start their training early!

Yes, your dog should undergo a full health check before receiving vaccinations. This ensures they’re in good health, as certain underlying conditions could become more problematic if vaccinated without proper assessment.
